WELCOME TO Dorset House School
PART OF THE LANCING COLLEGE FAMILY OF SCHOOLS
Welcome
At Dorset House, we aim to provide a magical prep school experience for our pupils in an environment where children are engaged, enthused and inspired. We are often described as a greenhouse not a hot house and we find that pupils grow in confidence in our high challenge/low threat atmosphere.
Our committed and talented staff foster close links between home and school and we know every child well, meaning that we are aware of any successes achieved or issues they are facing.
Our optional flexi and weekly boarding for our Prep children, promote independence.
Happy, confident – not arrogant young people, who can relate to and communicate with others – Dorset House children often win awards and scholarships to senior schools and regularly going on to hold positions of responsibility.
Prospective parents often comment on the warmth of this school and if that is something which is important to your family, please call to make an appointment to visit us. We look forward to meeting you.

We’re delighted to share the wonderful news that DH alumna Rosie O has been announced as Head Girl at @bryanstonschool
This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of Rosie’s hard work, character and leadership.
We are also incredibly proud that, in recent years, DH alumni have gone on to become Heads of School at Hurstpierpoint College and Brighton College and now Head Girl at Bryanston.
It is always so special to see former pupils flourishing and making their mark at senior school.
Congratulations Rosie, we are all very proud of you 👏

Last week, our Year 2 children hosted a healthy picnic for our Reception and Year 1 children. As part of their learning about healthy eating, they prepared the food and shared a presentation on how to make thoughtful food choices and create a healthy, balanced plate.
It was so lovely to see the children taking such care, showing kindness and confidence as they supported the younger children to include a little from each food group on their plate.
A wonderful afternoon spent together in the walled garden! ☀️
As their topic for the term, Year Two have been exploring Africa through artefacts, art, cooking and lots of interesting discussions 🌍
The children investigated a collection of artefacts and guessed what they might be used for and enjoyed a special presentation from one of our pupils sharing a collection of objects from South Africa. They also learned about Freedom Day, explored fairness and discovered the inspiring life of Nelson Mandela.
In cooking, the children learned to make African flatbreads and South African crunchies (like flapjacks but with a fruity twist!), filling the Champs building with delicious smells, while in art they created African-inspired necklaces and colourful masks.
Their classroom is now full of stunning paintings of African sunsets, complete with silhouettes of African trees and animals, creating a bright and vibrant display of everything they have explored this half term 🎨
Such a colourful way to finish the first half of the summer term and we can’t wait to see what they explore next!
Our next Open Morning will be in March 2026...
