Year 2 have been learning about Mary Seacole's traditional remedies and have tried some crushed ginger root and smelt lemon grass. We discovered that ginger was useful for treating lots of aches and pains including a tummy ache and head ache. As a treat we tried some Old Jamaican Ginger Beer afterwards. Which group do you think liked the ginger beer, and which group were not so keen?
Year 2 fought the rain to plant their daffodil bulbs outside Champs. We got into our muddy puddles and ventured out into the rain with our trowels to plant some lovely daffodil bulbs. We have been learning about how plants grow from a variety of seeds and after cutting open a daffodil bulb we noticed it had a lot of layers (more formally known as scales). We also identified the bud, tunic (outer protective layers) and roots. We are also growing pea shoots, herbs, sunflowers and cress in our classroom. No one complained about the rain as they were so excited to plant some more bulbs.read more
