Reception and Year one were making jelly pirate ships yesterday in cookery. Children scooped out the flesh of halved oranges, learned and watched how jelly is made and filled their 'ships' with jelly. Then they designed and made pirate flags to go on their ships. (They also enjoyed fresh orange juice made out the orange flesh.)
Once the jelly set children finished off their ships and enjoyed them at the end of the day.
Inspired by the 'Pirates Love Underpants' story, Reception children made their own pants! Children picked the fabric and practised their sewing skills, managing a simple running stitch with little or no help. Some of the underpants even fitted them perfectly!
