Dorset House has a long tradition of boarding but it is safe to say that the experience today will be very different from that of previous generations.

Children enjoy good food and comfortable surroundings, in an environment that encourages camaraderie, a sense of community and independence. This experience allows our boarders to move on to senior school and beyond, well equipped to make the most of the opportunities that life offers them.

We offer ‘Flexi-boarding’ which means children can choose to board between one and four nights a week. While many start out with just one night in Year 5, it is not uncommon for those in Year 8 to be at school for all four.

Our distinctive dormitories set in the eaves of the Manor allow the children to enjoy a homely atmosphere where a short story may be read by a ‘Gappie’ or there is the chance to have a cuddle with Mylo the black Labrador before bed!

Dorset House School Boarding Principles

Boarding is no longer a place where there are ‘no extras, no vacations and a diet unparalleled’ as Charles Dickens indicated in Nicholas Nickleby!
